Syria’s most notorious prison - Sednaya Human rights issue
‘Crowds Go to Syria’s Sednaya Prison In Search of Loved Ones’
Sednaya Prison, located near Damascus, Syria, is infamous for severe human rights abuses under the Assad regime. Described as a “human slaughterhouse,” it was a site of systemic torture, executions, and inhumane conditions.
Amnesty International reported mass hangings and torture as part of a state policy that amounted to crimes against humanity. Former inmates recount being subjected to physical and psychological torture, starvation, and lack of medical care.
The prison became emblematic of the regime’s brutality during Syria’s civil war.
