Israel hostage release deal - October 25th
Introduction
Hamas has announced the names of four female Israeli soldiers who are set to be released on Saturday, January 25, 2025, as part of the ongoing ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The hostages to be freed are
1.Karina Ariev, age 20
2.Daniella Gilboa, age 20
3.Naama Levy, age 20
4.Liri Albag, age 19
These four women were captured during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, while serving at the Nahal Oz military base near the Gaza border. They have been held in captivity for 475 days.
Background on the Hostages
Karina Ariel
She was stationed at the Nahal Oz army base when captured. Her sister Alexandra heard gunfire during a phone call with Karina on the day of the attack.
Daniella Gilboa
Also based at Nahal Oz, she appeared in a video released by Hamas in July 2024, appealing for the Israeli government to secure the release of all hostages.
Naama Levy
She had just begun her military service when captured. A video showed her being forcibly taken away in a jeep with her hands tied behind her back.
Liri Alba
She was undergoing military training as a lookout at Nahal Oz when the attack occurred. Her family has received messages from her through other released hostages.
Ceasefire Agreement Details
This release is part of the second exchange in a complex ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. The agreement stipulates that
For each Israeli female soldier released, Israel will free 50 Palestinian prisoners.
In total, 200 Palestinian prisoners are expected to be released in exchange for these four hostages.
The exchange is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, marking the second swap since the ceasefire began on Sunday, January 19.
Remaining Hostages
After this release, there will still be 89 hostages remaining in Gaza, according to Israeli officials.

Three female hostages from the original list of 33 slated for release in the first phase of the ceasefire agreement: Arbel Yehud (29), Shiri Silberman Bibas (33), and Agam Berger (21).
Seven dual U.S. nationals.
The ceasefire agreement aims to release a total of 33 hostages over six weeks, during which Israeli forces will gradually withdraw from the Gaza Strip.
